The Saint Peter Area Robotics Association will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 15st, 2016 in the Saint Peter Library Meeting Room.

Members of the Association, those interested in joining the Association, and all members of the general public that are interested in supporting the efforts of the Association are encouraged to attend this regular monthly meeting.

Another tournament fee is coming for FLL team going sectional tournament.

Other FTC bills have been paid.

  1. Report of Activities

FLL Tournaments

  • 3 FLL teams competed in tournaments this fall
  • ‘Flaming Goats’ won the award for best research project and advanced to the sectional tournament for FLL
    • Sectional Tournament on January 7 in New Brighton
      • Working to make more improvements on the robot and presentations. Anticipate judges will be harder

FLL Mock Tournament

  • Review FLL Mock Tournament for future improvements and planning
    • Teresa will be meeting with Recreation Department in January to review space needed to do the tournament
    • Need to reserve space in Community Center in February for November Mock Tournament
      • This would allow us to advertise for public to come and observe
    • Coaches like the shorter schedule to be done by Noon or 12:30 p.m.
      • This means we would need two rooms for the judging areas or that some teams may not be able to be judged in all areas
    • Should advertise starting in September
  • FLL Registration timeline
    • Registration and sign-up promotion should be open July 1
    • Organizational meeting should be first week of August
    • Teams start meeting in August
    • Sign-up deadline is end of August

FTC Teams

  • All three teams participated in December 11 tournament in Burnsville
  • The day was filled with challenges and successes
  • Teams had to make some modifications on their robots
  • Ended with Two Crows on a Fence being in the top four and picked the other two St. Peter teams for the alliance
  • FTC teams will meet occasionally over spring and summer
    • Work on some awards, learning more programming and build techniques, outreach, and engineering notebook
  • FTC Registration Timeline
    • Registration and sign-up promotion should be open July 1
    • Organizational meeting should be first week of August
    • Teams start meeting in August
    • Sign-up deadline is end of August

FTC St. Peter Tournament

  • We will be hosting two FTC Tournaments on Saturday, January 14 and Sunday, January 15
  • Food team met to coordinate food for the volunteers
  • Concessions food will be coordinated by the school but SPAR will do the volunteers to get the money (1 adults and 2 youth)
    • Will have breakfast food
    • Will pre-order pizza from teams
  • Emcees – Ben Obermiller, Anders Taylor?
  • Meredith will check with school on SAT scheduling
  • Chuck, Matt, and Teresa have a separate meeting with the school about our relationship with school district and FTC school team. Chuck will arrange for meeting.
    • If this is a school activity they should get the same treatment as other school activities like speech – do they letter, do they get recognized at a pep fest when they advance to finals, do they get invited to fall open house

FRC

  • Organizational Meeting: Monday, December19, from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm in the basement of Beck Hall
    • Peter Kuhlman from Jarraff will be present and is interested in being involved
    • Peter has ideas on a decision making process
  • FRC Kickoff event on January 7
  • FRC Online Registration forms and payments still need to be set up
    • Participation fee is $100
  • Iowa tournament is March 22-25
    • Need to reserve hotels – Meagan will book
  • North Star tournament is April 5-8
    • Need to reserve hotels – Meagan will book

Fundraising

Successful fundraising opportunity helping Gustavus with Christmas in Christ Chapel needs raised $250 with 12 people working between Saturday and Sunday.
